Haskell: The Craft of Functional Programming (International Computer Science Series)

The Craft of Stickmaking -

Haskell: The Craft of Functional Programming (International Computer Science Series) Customer Review: Frustrating book.
I hated the book more than I hated Haskell!

My first impression of the book was positive, the chapters looked organised and the language used looked very clear.

However, as the term went on I began using the book less and less as I felt alot of stuff in the book hadn’t been explained very well.
Customer Review: Essential for my understanding of functional programming.
This book was recommended to accompany a university module in Haskell and functional programming which I was having a little difficulty with. Once I read the book, not only did the concepts become clear but I also started to really enjoy functional programming. For my circumstances, it was the perfect book.

Making Stuff: An Alternative Craft Book (Interior Design) Customer Review: zohar (london)
wonderfull book. I did a lot of stuff from it and it has inspired me to be very crafty like i used to be years ago. the book don’t fit to beginners but will be great to craft lovers. many of my freinds will get gifts made from the book!
Customer Review: .
I was really looking forward to getting this book, but I have to say I was disappointed. It’s nicely presented & there are a couple of good ideas, but nothing particularly inspiring & a lot of the suggestions are completely useless…I doubt many of us need to make a sock puppet, let alone be told how to do it.

Silk Painting: The Artist’s Guide to Gutta and Wax Resist Techniques (Practical Craft Books): The Artist’s Guide to Gutta and Wax Resist Techniques (Practical Craft Books) Customer Review: The first step in successful silk painting!
This book is trully inspiring, the author suggests reading all the way through the book first before starting a silk painting esp if you are a novice, which i found to be good advice and was not difficult as it was excellent, she gives detailed descriptions on various techniques that will give you confidence and encourages you to experiment and adapt them to your own practice, with a number of examples by talented silk painters.
I will be starting my own first silk painting after reading this shortly, and with all I know now I am sure I will have alot of fun doing so.
Customer Review: A Great book to start painting on silk!
I am a beginner, and needed to learn all the different techniques silk painting as to offer.
This book is very good in telling you how to go through alot of different methods to achieve different styles. Lets you go through each style individually and lets you know all the little secrets to achieve the best results.

Arts and Crafts Architecture

The Druid Craft Tarot: Use the Magic of Wicca and Druidry to Guide Your Life -

Arts and Crafts Architecture Customer Review: Craftsmanlike publication
This is simply the best book written on Arts & Crafts architecture. In structure it is broadly chronological, but essentially each chapter is devoted to either a single architect (e.g. Voysey) or region outside Britain (USA, northern Europe, and Germany) or, in the instances of cities and gardens, to a theme. Peter Davey is intelligent, witty, writes well (increasingly a rarity these days), giving an analytical coherence to the study that I thought was impossible, and is a good man (in the postscript Davey’s own socialist sentiments become fully apparent).
If it is pictures you’re after, this is a Phaidon publication, so there are plenty. While the famous buildings get the full colour treatment, and often images we’ve seen before (especially in other Phaidon publications), there are many small black and white snaps (most by the author) that offer the well-read enthusiast numerous new pictures of unknown houses.
I must have fifty or more books on Arts and Crafts architecture, design and furniture and not one comes close to this in value for money (it is ridiculously cheap).

The Craft of the Classroom: A Survival Guide to Classroom Management in the Secondary School

The Craft of Stickmaking -

The Craft of the Classroom: A Survival Guide to Classroom Management in the Secondary School Customer Review: The most helpful publication I have read
This is the most helpful publication I have read on classroom management and how to avoid problems rather than deal with them. My copy was given to me by my former headmaster when I began my teaching career sixteen years ago and I find myself quoting from it spontaneously as I guide Beginner Teachers. The advice is timeless and will help you to create a calm and orderly environment in which your pupils can learn most effectively. As Marland states, teachers are not ‘born’, they learn their skills, and this book will give trainees a headstart in doing just that.
Customer Review: Invaluable
It may look and occasionally sound (eg in its advice on what to wear) dated, but this is a wise and realistic book - I’m sure it would help PGCE students, NQTs and many others in their early years of teaching. The book’s great strength is its practical advice - few books or even courses would go into as much depth about routines of giving out books, how to set out your markbook, and how to pace yourself through the term and year, and yet these are the issues that to a great extent determine whether a young teachers succeeds or struggles. Marland offers many hints and tips, and urges you to accept them but still leaves alternatives open if they seem more appropriate. Buy it, read it, and then read it again in a few months to make sure you have imbibed all the ideas - it may make all the difference to your career.

The Children’s Year: Seasonal Crafts and Clothes (Festivals (Hawthorn Press))

The Art and Craft of Polymer Clay: Techniques and Inspiration for Jewellery, Beads and the Decorative Arts -

The Children’s Year: Seasonal Crafts and Clothes (Festivals (Hawthorn Press)) Customer Review: Inspirational and inspiring
I attended the Springboard course some years ago and was delighted to be asked to write a profile to be part of this book. The Springboard book is seperated into easy to deal with sections and they are easy to work through without feeling bogged down by them. By the end of each section you realise that you have a lot too offer and by the end of the book you are inspired to make the most of the things you have. You have also gained the confidence to be able to go out and do noew things. A must for anyone who doesn’t quite know where their life is going. It’s great fun finding out all the things you are capable of!!!
Customer Review: A terrific book to inspire craft-making for every season
This book has a lovely country-craft feel to it, with hard to find patterns and instructions for many old time toys and projects.Knit warm wool socks or simple hats in Autumn, make a horse harness in Spring for children to gallop together. The instuctions are clear with good illustrations and the children love to pick a project to help with. Suggests using natural fibres and materials which make a special gift or family treasure! A staple book in our family of seven!
