Cabbages and Roses: Vintage Crafts - 35 Charming Projects for the Home and Garden (Cabbages & Roses) Customer Review: VERY NICE
This is a beautiful book and very encouraging and inspiring, but at times some of it was not what I would term “Vintage” - each to their own of course, beauty being in the eye of the beholder, but the white attic room screamed “IKEA” at me rather than “Vintage” but that was really my only complaint.
The book is beautiful, the photography and the rooms stunning.
Customer Review: Never mind the quality…
This is the naffest soft furnishing book I have ever encountered, and I’ve read a few as I also teach the subject. This is a ‘how not to’ book as far as the quality of the results are concerned; I would be ashamed to show anyone workmanship like the wonky scalloped shelf trim with its badly finished bias binding, let alone photograph it, publish it and charge people to look at it. Anyone with the most basic knowledge of sewing could look at the pictures and work out how to make the items shown, without the incredibly obvious instructions. This is style without content, the sort of thing that gets crafts a bad name, that equates hand-made with badly-made. Don’t go there!

The Craft and Art of Clay: A Complete Potter’s Handbook

The Craft and Art of Clay: A Complete Potter’s Handbook Customer Review: Wow - Extremely Useful!!!
It may seem like another one of those books that are full of information which is either too much to read and take in or just too much you don’t even want to try!
This IS NOT one of those books. Peterson has written some incredibly useful information which seems to be all my ceramic book collection in one (could’ve saved a lot of space!). With over 400 pages, each one is full with extremely useful information which is actually easy to read and inspiring. There is everything in there from the usual of different clays, decorating techniques, etc to info on Marketing & Computers, conversion charts & tables for days and also a section consisting of 50 pages of colour photographs of other work.
A fantastic book that should definetly be added to anyones book collection - if your work is sculptural, craft, functional or just for fun this is a must!! Also a great priced book for priceless knowledge!

The Craft of Lyric Writing

Making Wire Jewelry (Jewelry Crafts) (Jewelry Crafts) -

The Craft of Lyric Writing Customer Review: Fantastic
This book is very detailed, and a complete analysis of the forms, and, well , craft, of songwriting. You can learn tons from this, as well as listening carefully to songs you do and don’t like.
Previous reviews have noted cheesy or bad lyrics held up as good, but don’t we all listen to some songs and cringe, while others absolutely love the same song (”Fog on the Tyne”, anyone!).

To learn the craft, this book is fan-bloomin-tastic. To write what you consider great lyrics, well, that’s up to you, not Sheila!
Customer Review: Sheila is terrific!
I’ve read about 12 books on songwriting since 1979. This bookand everything by Pat Pattison is light years ahead of everything else in my opinion. Inspired by these two and years of writing and studying, I’m now writing one myself. :-) Great book! Most people think of it as one of, if not THE best. Dave

Top Knife: the Art and Craft of Trauma Surgery: The Art and Craft of Trauma Surgery Customer Review: Perfect introduction to trauma surgery
This book is an easy and complelling read for surgerons interested in trauma. It provides the reader with “one correct way” of doing things. Therefore it is not comprehensive nor a balanced account. However it delivers the message very effectively to those who want to learn the most important principles of trauma surgery. I you haven’t read any trauma texts previously this book is the perfect place to start.

The Witches’ Craft: The Roots of Witchcraft and Magical Transformation

The Witches’ Craft: The Roots of Witchcraft and Magical Transformation Customer Review: A Definitive Work
Grimassi (Wiccan Mysteries; Encyclopedia of Wicca and Witchcraft), a practicing Wiccan for nearly three decades, has trained in at least four schools of The Craft. Here he makes a powerful case for returning to the ancient traditions that he believes have fallen by the wayside in the last 20 years. He complains that “many modern books on Witchcraft will describe a technique or method of performing a spell or ritual, and then go on to inform the reader that almost everything described is
optional, and that the prescribed items can easily be substituted with other things.” His approach is different than those “modern” books he chastises more traditional, more rooted. His substantive research in the first third of the book traces the written history of witches over the past 2,500 years. Having thus established his traditional credentials, Grimassi then turns to the tools, techniques and tried-and-true methods such as instruments, states of consciousness, implements, and the like. Much more than the standard gallop through the sabbats (seasonal observations), Grimassi delves deftly into more cerebral issues such as “right and left brain consciousness” and “myth and metaphor.” He also manages to put into perspective more provocative avenues such as “sex magic” and “ritual flagellation.” Grimassi offers a well-researched history of ancient magickal techniques, including some that have been preserved orally and are here in print for the first time. Everyone who cares deeply about the witchcraft tradition will want this impressive work.
